I should mention, it doesn't stop them from clawing, they still go after the scratchy cardboard thingie with a vengeance, but when they go after the chair, well, no claw marks! And they last a pretty long time. The claws shed naturally, so some last longer than others. I highly recommend them if you're looking to save your furniture. This coming from someone who hasn't bought new furniture for twenty years because it jsut wasn't worth it when all her stuff is clawed up on the corners. But I got my new purple velvet couch this summer, and it's still intact!

The whole Soft Paw process varies on the cat. I started Maxwell on them young so after the initial first time and a little struggling, now he just sits there and lets me do it because he's used to it. It doesn't take long. Just load up the claw covers with glue (yeah, it uses super glue) and then get the cat (usually I find him napping) and put them on. Then I hold him or cuddle him for a few minutes to give glue time to dry and he's off.
Now, my older cat (15 yrs) was not thrilled about these stupid claw things at first. He chewed them off right away. But now, it's been 9 months since we've been using them, and he's very cool with it. Oh, here she comes again with those stupid claw thingies. Whatever. No fighting. He's accepted. ;-)

Max has purple ones right now, and Toast (who is brown and black) has black ones. He's not showy so we give him black. But Maxwell does like to sport a pretty color.

Hee. Fortunately, you can't see it in the pic, but he's got the Soft Paws claw caps on (to keep him from ruining the furniture) so any claws are soft and rounded if they touch skin. ;-)

Lou, I have the mss of the books. Heck, I have the books! If you're thinking the typeset files of the books, yes, I'm not sure what, exactly, the publisher would have that I would be able to use. Or if they even keep those files. Could be something to look into. When I get desperate. :-)

See that's the thing, Anne. I don't have the mindset to put these books out to make a profit (yet). So it would be basically putting them out there for fans to read. So if it's going to be so much trouble, then most likely will not even attempt. Oh! If only I had these books on disc or CD somewhere!

I almost think retyping would be better than scanning. With scanning, you are left with all these artifacts that make formatting a tedious nightmare. So Pale Immortal is finally available through E-junkie, Smashwords, and Kindle. I hate to tell you my dismal sales figures. I'm going to wait a couple of weeks, then blog them. Right now it's looking like it's not worth the work.

Well, if I had books which would need to be scanned and edited and no time or patience to do it or a lot of money to pay for someone for doing those things, I would find somebody who would be willing to do a little trade: this person/persons would scan and edit the books and then I would do something for them or maybe give some stuff for them that I no longer need, but they would love to have. I could for instance knit something, teach English or Finnish or translate someting for them. Or I could give few bags full of books. For instance.
