I have to tell you about this new book I've started reading. It's so amazing, that I'm only on chapter five and already I want everyone to read it, and to love it as much as I do. I bought this book souly because of the title. Isn't that the most inticing title? Then, when I saw it was about faeries, I just snatched it up. Had to have it.
I read chapter one of WICKED LOVELY on Tuesday night. The prose was delicious and wicked lovely and splendidly dangerous. I actually sighed as I finished that chapter. Have you ever read a book and when you're done reading as much as you will for one session you just sort of hold the book, admire the cover, trace your fingers over the lettering? Well, I do. Sometimes. Rarely. But this is one of those books.
So last night, I cautioned myself. Read slowly. Savour this. Just one more chapter. But I read chapters 2, 3 and 4. I couldn't help it. It's just so nummy.
This is a young adult faery story. A simple explanation for what may become a very complex read. The heroine can see faeries. But no one knows that, not even the faeries. And they are everywhere. They are in the streets, walking in an amongst the mortals, unseen, but doing little tricks like tripping mortals or touching them. Small stuff. But if the heroine let's the faeries know she can see them, then I'm guessing...all hell will break loose. It's all I know so far, and the wondering is as delicious as the prose. The heroine's first meeting with Keenan, a faery king (who may, or may not turn out to be the hero) is just....oh! Gorgeous stuff in here, people. If you like faeries, and not the little fluttery flower kind, but the dark, sensuous and complicated kind, then you MUST read this book. (Keenan's conversation with his mother, the Winter Queen is just so, so...faery and dark and devious and perfect.)
Now, I know, it could get worse. I've only read four chapters. But I doubt it. I think I'm in for a great ride. And I'm already anticipating a sequel! I stopped by Melissa Marr's web site, and I see the book hit #2 on the NYT list. Way to go! So awesome. She does have a blog, so I'll have to see to getting a link posted here.
Go buy this book! You won't regret it.

I just finished this book yesterday, and when I was on chapter five, I felt the same way. What a great book. And I don't even normally like YA much.
I want everyone to run out and buy it right now so I'll have people to squee over it with.
I loved this book too. And isn't the cover stunning? The whole thing is just a masterpeice. Actually, I loved it so much That I made a fansite for it, wickedlovely.com. I mention it because i was wondering if I could use your review on the site? We'd link back to you, of course. If you could email me at maria@wickedlovely.com if you're cool with it, I'd appreciate it :)
thanks,
